Gratitude Lists for Boosting Self-Esteem

We wanted to share a popular idea of how gratitude can benefit your self-esteem.

Considering what you are grateful for is a great way to see the positives and blessings in your life.

Making a Gratitude List

Writing down what you are grateful for is shown to improve a person's mood. Writing a gratitude list allows people to reflect on the good things in their life, taking focus away from the bad.

We recommended writing on a piece of paper rather than a device. Studies show that information is more well-retained through writing rather than typing. Take a moment out of your day to make a list. It can be a short list on a sticky note with only a few items, or you can fill an entire page. There are countless aspects of life to be grateful for, even when life is hard. Though everyone has a different situation, here are 25 everyday things many people have to be thankful for.

  1. I am grateful to have a place to live.
  2. I am grateful for jokes to laugh at.
  3. I am grateful for my favorite music.
  4. I am grateful for chocolate.
  5. I am grateful to have access to education.
  6. I am grateful to have a loving family.
  7. I am grateful for the weekend.
  8. I am grateful to have sufficient food to eat and water to drink.
  9. I am grateful to live in a country where I have freedom of speech and religion.
  10. I am grateful for my teachers and mentors.
  11. I am grateful to have sufficient clothes to wear.
  12. I am grateful for getting green lights when I drive.
  13. I am grateful to live in a safe place.
  14. I am grateful to have good physical health.
  15. I am grateful for God's love.
  16. I am grateful to able to use my senses: sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste.
  17. I am grateful to have a good job.
  18. I am grateful to have children.
  19. I am grateful for my friends.
  20. I am grateful for my favorite books.
  21. I am grateful for nature.
  22. I am grateful to have access to healthcare.
  23. I am grateful to have a loving partner or spouse.
  24. I am grateful for how cute Baby Yoda is.
  25. I am grateful for smartphones.

Gratitude does not have to only be for the necessities in life. There are so many things to be grateful for beyond having a roof over your head and food to eat.

Making a gratitude list and placing it somewhere that you will see it often is a great way to uplift your spirits when you are feeling down. We highly recommend writing a gratitude list regularly, once a week, if not daily, to boost self-esteem. You can also use a journal. If you do this, we have faith that it will improve your outlook on life.
